How to Hang a Barn Quilt
A mounting method must support the actual panel and location. Large outdoor squares behave like sails, so weight alone is not enough when choosing hardware.

Measure and weigh
Record the finished dimensions and weight, including frame or backing hardware. Confirm the wall material and what structural framing is available behind it.
Indoor mounting
Small pieces may use picture hardware rated above the finished weight. Larger pieces should connect to studs or suitable anchors. Protect the wall from sharp hardware and allow the piece to sit flat.
Outdoor mounting
Account for wind load, weather exposure, corrosion, wall condition, ladder access, and a drainage/air gap where appropriate. Large or elevated installations may require a qualified installer.
Wood and masonry walls
Fasteners and anchors must match the wall material. Do not substitute interior picture hardware on siding, masonry, or high-wind exterior locations.
Panel penetrations
Preplan holes or brackets, protect exposed material at penetrations, and avoid overtightening that crushes or distorts the panel.
Level and secure
Use at least two reference points, check level, and prevent the bottom from swinging or rattling where conditions require it.
Maintenance access
Mount the quilt so it can be inspected and removed without damaging the artwork or wall. Recheck fasteners and coating around attachment points periodically.
