First 36-inch barn quiltMore visibility with comfortable geometry
Favor patterns whose smallest regions remain easy to tape at this scale. Support the panel while painting, calculate each grid section precisely, and verify repeated points before masking. Plan enough working space to rotate or reach the full board safely.
First 48-inch barn quiltLarge-panel handling and installation
Plan transport, work supports, storage between coats, wind exposure, mounting structure, and safe installation before starting. Use strong, simple geometry and inspect the pattern from the intended distance before painting.
Two-color projectFast, bold, and beginner-friendly
Choose one background and one pattern color with a strong value difference. Paint the base uniformly, verify every boundary, mask one clean stage, and build the pattern color with controlled coats.
Three-color projectBackground, main color, and accent
Assign clear roles. Paint non-touching main-color regions together, allow safe cure time, then mask and paint the accent. Repeat the accent intentionally so it supports the pattern rather than distracting from it.
Four- to six-color projectLabeled placement and staged masking
Create a complete color key and number the painting stages before starting. Group non-touching regions, test every neighboring pair for contrast, and keep the reference map beside the panel throughout the project.
